Mrs Augusta A. Maclaughlin

Mrs. Augusta A. 'Gussie'(Anthony) MacLaughlin, age 101 of Low Lane, Bristol, died Monday, February 28, 2011 at her home. She was the wife of the late Harold S. MacLaughlin. Born and raised in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Earl and Augusta (Chase) Anthony. A Bristol resident for most of her life, she was a graduate of Rogers High School, Newport, Class of 1927 and a graduate of the Katherine GibbsSchool. She worked in the business office of the former Fulflex Corp for 25 years, retiring in 1972. Gussie was an active member and communicant of St. Michael's Episcopal Church where she was a former member of the Vestry, Altar Guild, Ivy Guild and the Episcopal Church Women. She was a member of the Bayberry Garden Club. Gussie was devoted to her family and friends and a true model of being human in her approach of equal treatment of all whether a member of her family or someone she just met for the first time, her warmth and graciousness put people at ease immediately and made her loved by all. She is survived by her son, Harold A. 'Hal'MacLaughlin and his wife, Amy of Baltimore, MD, two granddaughters, Augusta E. MacLaughlin of Trinity College, Hartford, CT and Eleanor S. MacLaughlin of Bryn Mawr School for Girls in Maryland, and her longtime friend and caregiver, Maria 'Mary Lou' Goncalves. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Anthony. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in celebration of her life, Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM in St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, East Main Road, Portsmouth. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
