Antoinette Nappi, 92, devoted mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully on Saturday, March 21 at the Philip Hulitar Home and Hospice Center in Providence. She was the wife of the late Andrew Nappi and resided in Bristol for over 65 years. Born in Warren, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Michael and Anna (Sullo) Lastoria. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters and brother, Concetta Cadile, Virginia DeLeo, Carol Arruda, and Tony Lastoria. She is survived by her children, Andrea (Tom) Flynn, of Bristol, Joseph (Cathy) Nappi, of Connecticut and Ohio, and MIchael (Brenda) Nappi, of Warren; her grandchildren, Patty (Jonathan) Palmer, Maggie (Steve) Morris, Michael (Joann) Flynn, Brian (Jenn) Flynn, Thom (Anyea) Flynn, John (Jenny) Flynn, Joe (Nayla Menard) Nappi, Cara (Andy) Billman, Keri Nappi, Michael Nappi, Steven (Nicole) Nappi; her great grandchildren, Jackson, Abigail, and Caroline Palmer, Charlie, Emily, and Matthew Morris, Ryan and Gavin Flynn, Sadie and Vincent Flynn, Ellis Flynn, Nathaniel Flynn, Matthew Nappi, Jackson, Cameron, and Carson Billman, Allison, Kayleigh, Madison, and Tyler Faria, Carson Nappi, and Austin, Owen, Ava, and Ella Nappi. Antoinette is also survived by a sister, Mary Frederick of Fall River. For many years, Antoinette was a factory worker making rubber for golf balls at Carr Manufacturing in Bristol and later at Lloyd Manufacturing in Warren. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and its Rosary and Altar Society, cooking in their kitchen for the annual July 16th feast and many other church events until her health prevented her participation. True to her Italian heritage, Antoinette's culinary talents were visible at every family function. From bridal and baby showers to weddings, christening, and the traditional 4th of July parade, her famous doughboys, meatballs, braciole, eggplants, stuffed shrimp, chocolate candies, pumpkin rolls, wandis and more took center stage. Along with her cooking skills, Antoinette was a prolific knitter, making afghans for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In fact, there is one already set aside for the great grandchild due in May! In addition, she spent hours knitting hundreds of prayer patches for soldiers, cancer survivors, and recovery addicts, along with newborn hats for Newport Hospital. In recent years, Antoinette unearthed a hidden talent of making jewelry while residing at Atria Aquidneck Place of Portsmouth. Many of her friends and family are lucky recipients of her colorful creations. Lately her health prevented her from traveling too far, but she had endless pictures to remind her of the many trips she took with her dear friend, Margaret Sousa. They toured Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. On cruises, they visited virtually all of the Caribbean islands, most notably St. Martin and St. Lucia. Not bad for two octogenarians! For Antoinette, a remarkable woman of very humble origins, her legacy is her family. One can only imagine the deep sense of pride this 1st generation American citizen who never entered high school experienced, as she watched her 3 children and every one of her 11 granchildren earn their college degrees. (Her oldest great grandchild is in her 3rd year of college!)
