Mr. William L. Serbst, Jr., age 82 of Poppasquash Road, Bristol, died Monday, March 14, 2016 at his home. He was the husband of Marilyn T. (Storch) Serbst, his wife of 55 years. Born in Providence, raised and a lifelong resident of Bristol, he was the son of the late Dr. William L. and Mary (Connors) Serbst. Bill served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, Class of 1950. He was a member of Teamster local #251. Following his retirement, he was a self-employed handyman. A communicant of St. Marys Church, Bristol, Bill was a life member of the Hydraulion Engine & Hose Co. No. 1 and the Firemens Memorial and Welfare Committee and a past Captain of Engine 4 for the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Past Post Commander for the former Kearney Post # 6, American Legion in Bristol. He loved spending time working around his home and gardens and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons; William L. Serbst, Timothy P. Serbst and his wife Pamela, and Peter C. Serbst and his wife Maria, all of Bristol and seven grandchildren; Nicholas, Andrew, Jeremy, Stephen, Jack, Lauren and Emma. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sister Martha Serbst, R.S.M. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visitation will be Saturday morning only, starting at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Firemens Memorial and Welfare Committee or to the Bristol Rescue Squad, both P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
