Mr. William Gomes, age 72, of Mulberry Road, Bristol, died Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Rhode Island Hospital Providence surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Lucille (Donato) Gomes his wife of 47 years. Born in Fall River, MA and a lifelong Bristol resident, he was a son of the late Amadeu 'Jack' and Mary (Texeira) Gomes. William worked in the Production Warehouse for the Providence Journal for 42 years before retiring in 2000, after he worked for Roger Williams University in the mail room for 5 years. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Era in which he was a Combat Veteran. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church, he was a member of the Rangers Drum Corp the Generations Drum Corp and the East Bay Anglers. Besides his wife he is survived by his son, Steven Gomes and his wife Grace of NY, NY and his daughter Ann Marie Soares and her husband Phillip of Riverside, a sister Nancy Huggins and her husband Edwin of Bristol and a brother in-law Dick Ramsdell of MI and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Ramsdell. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home 192 Wood Street, Bristol Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 8:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM.
