Mr Victor Oliver Castro

Victor Oliver Castro, 93, of 151 Bay View Avenue, Bristol died on January 22, 2012 after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to Mary (Ricardo) Castro. A lifelong resident, he was born in Bristol, RI on November 27, 1918 to the late Victor O. and Philomena ( Pacheco) Castro of Bristol, R.I. Victor was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the European Theater and participated in the D Day landings on Utah Beach. He received a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and European Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead for his service to his country. He spent his working life in service to U.S. Army veterans, caring for residents of the Bristol Veterans Home. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Maryellen Castro, her husband Dirk van Gendt and their sons Christopher and Keith of Tiverton. His funeral will be held on Friday, January 27th at 9:00 AM from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol at 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 3-5 pm. The family is particularly appreciative of the efforts of the Bristol Rescue Squad in coming to the assistance of Mr. Castro over the years and request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O.
