Mr. Michael Murgo, age 90, of 33 Dartmouth Street, Bristol, died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Josephine (Abatuno) Murgo, his wife of 70 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Gaetano and Ermelinda (Cupolo) Murgo. Michael served as a Corporal in US Army during WWII. He was an Extruder Operator for 37 years for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp in their former Bristol and Portsmouth plants, retiring in 1978. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bristol, he was a member of the Bristol Council # 379, Knights of Columbus and Leonardo da Vinci Lodge # 2289, Sons of Italy, both in Bristol. He was a member of the former Bristol High School and Mt. Hope High School Football 'chain gang' for many years. Mr. Murgo will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather, an avid sports enthusiast and he enjoyed spending time in his garden and cooking for his beloved family. He enjoyed many years of swimming with his friends at the Newman YMCA. He was a tremendous supporter of his grandchildren and now great grandchildren at all the many athletic and academic events in their lives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Michael Murgo, Jr. and his wife, Ellen of Narragansett, Emily Spinard and her husband Edward of Bristol, Gaetano Murgo of Swansea, MA and Nicholas Murgo and his wife, Donna of Warwick, fifteen grandchildren, Tara (Russ) Payne, Marc (Maureen) Murgo, Jo-Ellen Murgo, Michael C. Murgo, John M. (Marie) Mello, Melissa (Tim) Velleca, Thomas (Noelle) Mello, Michael Mello, Edward Spinard, Caroline A. (Mark) Montgomery, Jennifer, Laura, David, Domenic and Gabriel Murgo, nine great grandchildren, Emily Mello, Jude and Michael Velleca, Marissa, Bella and Sofia Payne, Caroline G. Montgomery, Julia and Sienna Murgo. Also survived by three sisters, Antonetta Francis, Philomena (Pat) Pezzullo and Doris (Ted) Moskala all of Bristol, a sister-in-law, Edith (Vincent) Chisholm of Barrington and many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Caroline F. Murgo, three brothers, Paul F., John B. and Rudolph M. Murgo and a sister, Lucy E. Murgo. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 9:00 AM with aMass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Wednesday, March 14, 2012 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
