Mr. Manuel G. Faria, age 65 of Antony Avenue, Bristol, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Cizaltina (Pimentel) Faria, his wife of 44 years. In addition to his wife, he leaves his three sons, Ryan DeFaria (Kimberly) of Newport, NY, Manny and Andrew Faria, his grandson, Lukas G. Faria, all of Bristol, a sister, Conceicao Alves (the late Jose Elmano Alves) and a brother, Antonio DeFaria (Belmira), and a sister-in-law, Gilberta Faria (the late Alexandre Faria, his brother) all in Faial, Azores. Born in Capelo, Faial, Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel and Gloria (Goulart) Faria. Manuel immigrated to Bristol from the Azores in 1968. He was a carpenter, a shipwright, and craftsman of many trades. He worked for many of the local boat companies including, T.P.I., American Shipyard, Director Shipyard, Sea Ryder and rounding out his career with 20 years at Blount Boats in Warren, retiring due to illness in 2014. Early in his career he designed and fabricated a carbon fiber steering wheel for the American Cup. Manuel was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Committee for many years. An avid fisherman who loved being on the water in his 24 foot “Old Town Boat” that he completely restored together with his sons. He always shared his passion of boat building, carpentry, agriculture with his boys and grandson, Lukas. With some wood and his tools, there wasnt anything he could not build. Whether his triple decker bird houses, hand carved airplanes and various types of furniture. Manuels work wasnt only in his home, but in the homes of many friends and family. His trinkets even traveled overseas to the Azores. Most weekends were spent fishing, with his sons, friends and family. A huge joy for Manuel was agriculture, he had many fruit trees that he took care of meticulously. He also had a love of raising animals, including rabbits, quails and pigeons. He loved visiting family and friends in the Azores, and his most proud accomplishment was finishing his home on Antony Avenue, where he raised his beloved family. All in all Manuel was a stand up, all around guy, he never missed a day at work and worked hard for his family. A tough exterior, but a soft caring heart, always joking and trying to get you to crack a smile. Yet most important to him was his love for his wife, his three sons, his grandson, and his entire family, his devoted in-laws, Ray and Adeline Rodrigues, Maria Pimentel, Tony Pimentel and Karen Johnson, also special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and his buddies, Joao Correia and Joao Cordeiro. A special thanks to Dr. David Leibowitz and his caring staff for their help and compassion, throughout the years and to Jessica Figureid, for her calming support and love to Manuel.
