Mr John J. August

Mr. John J. 'Barney'August, Jr., age 64 of 121 Fales Road, Bristol, died Friday, June 15, 2012 at Newport Hospital, Newport surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maribeth Balzano August, his wife of 23 years. Born in Providence and a lifelong resident of Bristol, he was a son of the late John J. and Vida K. (Jerrett) August, Sr. He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1966 and went on to attend Johnson and Wales College. He served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard for six years during the Vietnam Conflict. Barney was a salesman for the Speedway Distributing Company part of Wynns Oil Company in East Providence for 25 years retiring in 2006. He previously worked for a number of years for his family's business the former Buttonwood's Dairy and then worked for a few years for Salois Dairy and then Monroe's Dairy. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bristol and was a member of the Bristol County Lodge of Elks and served on their Dock Committee for a number of years, a member of the 10 BI Club and a member of 'The Bottom Feeders', a fund raising group. He was involved in Modified Racing on the crew for Ed St.Angelo for a number of years. Barney was an avid Boater he loved Saltwater Fishing. He was also a avid NASCAR Racing and New England Patriot's Fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Christine Hammond and her husband Brian of Fredericksburg, VA, Allison and J. Nicholas August, both of Bristol, a step-daughter, Cheryl Gagliardi and her husband Dr. Stephen of Fall River, MA, three grandchildren, Codie, Casey and Tanner Hammond, and a step-granddaughter, Arianna Gagliardi. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, June 22, 2012 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Thursday, June 21, from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol.
