Mr. James J. Sylvester, age 87 of 326 Thames Street, Bristol, died peacefully Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the Silver Creek Manor, Bristol surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marie M. 'Mae' (Saucier) Sylvester, his wife of 63 years. Born in Bristol and lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary (Bolster) Sylvester. Jim served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Trailer Truck Driver for 25 years for the former Vorro's Express of Bristol, retiring in 1976. He had previously worked as a milkman for Serpa's Dairy for a number of years. Jim was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bristol, a 21 year member of the New England Teamsters Union Local 251 and a social member of the Ever Ready Engine & Hose Co. 2 of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James J. Sylvester, II and his wife, Madalena Andrade-Sylvester and Mark E. Sylvester and his wife, Lisa, and two grandsons, James J. Sylvester, III and David M. Sylvester, all of Bristol, a brother, John Sylvester of Bristol and June Sousa (David) of Warren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Ann Hilsman, a sister, Helen Paiva and two brothers, Edward and Gerald Sylvester. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Creek Manor Activity Fund, 7 Creek Lane, Bristol, RI 02809.
