Mr. James J. Connery, Jr., age 91 of the RI Veterans Home and formerly of Valley Drive, Bristol, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the home. He was the husband of the late Elvira A. (Pansa) Connery. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late James J. Connery, Sr. and Nellie B. (Flanagan) Connery. James graduated from Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1941 and attended Bryant College, the University of Rhode Island and Emerson College in Boston. He served in the US Army, during WWII. James was an accounting technician at the US Navy Base in Newport, RI and in Davisville, RI for 30 years, before retiring. He previously worked in the passport agency in Boston. He was a part-time sports writer for the Bristol Phoenix newspaper for many years. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Pawtucket Red Sox fan. He was a member of the Bristol Senior Citizens Chorus for a number of years and enjoyed walking, bowling and reading. Trained as a radio announcer, he was a volunteer reader at Insight Radio as a reader to the blind. He is survived by six children, J. Brian Connery of Warwick, Karen A. Connery in RI, Thomas R. Connery of Orlando, FL, Kevin P. Connery of Warren, Patricia M. Chabot of Millbury, MA and Ann M. Connery of Rumford, four grandchildren, Brielle Trosset, Landrie, Allison and Aramente Connery. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Connery and a sister, Catherine Reynolds. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 12:00 Noon in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
