Mr Edward E. Groff

Mr. Edward E. Groff, age 85, of 22 Roosevelt Drive, Bristol, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Elvira T. (Cirillo) Groff, his wife of 57 years. Born in Covlee, Washington, he was the son of the late Jesse L. and Augusta Flossie (Jones) Groff. He was a resident of Bristol for most of his life. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict and peacetime for 13 years and then transferred to the US Air Force for 7 years before retiring in 1964. Following his retirement, he was a mechanic for the former Carroll Cable Co., in Warren for a number of years and then the Indiv Co. for several years retiring in 1987. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five grandchildren; Melinda M. Groff of Warren, Edward H. Groff of Bristol, Kerri A. Groff of Warwick, Kevin A. Groff of East Providence and Kristen A. Groff of Pawtucket and six great grandchildren; Robert, Alexandra, Kira, Konnor, Alexis and Payton and a sister, Beatrice Nett of Vancover, Washington. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward E. Groff, Jr., four brothers, Melvin, Raymond, Jesse and Dwayne Groff and a sister, Doris Forney. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visitation will be Tuesday morning only from 9:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
