Mr. Douglas B. Baker, 88 of 7 Doran Avenue, Bristol, died peacefully Thursday, December 2, 2010 at this home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Correira) Covel, his wife of three years and the husband of the late Mary Gloria (Marshall) Baker and the late Mary (Nogueira) Baker. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Walter R. and Helen G. (Buffington) Baker. A graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol and a graduate of Bryant College in Providence, Class of 1948 he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He served as a Sonarman Second Class in the US Navy during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was a draftsman and later an assistant designer in the Engineering dept of Narragansett Electric Company for 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bristol and he was a third order member of the Franciscan Associates. He was a life member of the Lawson Raiola Post # 15, D.A.V., Bristol and a life member of the American Legion Post # 6, Bristol. Doug was a great lover of animals. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, William P. Baker of Bristol, Marilyn A. Mintel of Foster, Mark D. Baker and his wife Carol Ann of Richmond, John W. Baker and his wife Linda of Bristol, Mary Ellen Aubin and her husband Jeffrey of Harrisville and Paul P. Baker of Los Angeles, CA, a step-daughter, Elizabeth King of Arizona, six grandchildren, Rebecca A. McDermott, Robert C. Aubin, Amy G. Mintel, Heidi Baker, Holly Koster and Angela L. Aubin. In addition to his two wives and parents, he was preceded in death by the late Audrey B. Cochrane, Junie Baker, Walter R. Baker and Wesley S. Baker. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Animal Shelter, Minturn Farm Road, Bristol, RI 02809.
