Mr. Augustine J. "Gus" Nunes

Augustine (Gus) J. Nunes, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 2, 2019 in Port Charlotte, Florida. He was the son of the late Joseph P. and Mary (Leone) Nunes of Bristol and the beloved husband of Lynda (Larson) Nunes. He leaves four children, Eric T Nunes and wife Kimberly, Deborah L. (Nunes) Hughes and husband Gregory, David J. Nunes and wife, Angela, and Kristin L (Nunes) Morton and husband Thomas. He leaves six grandchildren, Ethan Manosh and Holden Hughes, Christian and Piper Nunes, Kailynn and Kenley Dollar. Gus was a 1958 graduate of Bristol High School and Bryant College, Class of 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1958-1962. He was the former Bristol Town Administrator from 1974-1976, instrumental in creating Independence Park, the police station, the Community Center at the armory building on Thames St., among other accomplishments in Town. He was the owner of Nunes Property Management providing apartment housing in town from 1985. Gus was a long time member of the Bristol Council Knights of Columbus, the Order of the Elks and the Bristol Lions Club. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, April 10, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol.
