Mr. Arthur Edward “Art” Jordan, age 88, of Cole Street, Bristol, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Newport Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Marilee (Griffin) Jordan, his wife of 67 yrs. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Arthur E. and Mary (McKenna) Jordan. Art served in the US Army during WWII as a Private First Class in the army of occupation in Berlin, Germany. Following the war, he served in the RI Army National Guard for 4 years where he was promoted to Sergeant. Art was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1945. He was the starting back for the football team and inducted into the Bristol High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988. Art also played football and hockey for the Berlin Bears during his military years in Germany. After the war, “Artie” played football for the Bristol Townies in the RI Colonial Football League. He was the Superintendent of the Building and Grounds Department at Brown University for over 25 years, retiring in 1988. His favorite hobby was custom woodworking for family and friends and was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox teams. In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children; Theodore E. Jordan (Robin) of Warren, Stephen A. Jordan (Cynthia) of Narragansett, Edward C. Jordan (Donna) of Warren, Carol J. Lepley (Stephen) of Middletown, Robert T. Jordan (Joan) of Barrington, Richard P. Jordan (Cynthia) of Tiverton and Douglas G. Jordan (Julia) of Whitefield, Maine. He was also survived by sixteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services and burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
