Mrs. Maxine L. (Shorey) Tweedie Gecawich, age 84, of 41 Wapping Drive, Bristol, died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late John J. Gecawich. Born in Unity Plantation, Maine, she was a daughter of the late Clyde E. and Manilla B. (Reynolds) Shorey. Mrs. Gecawich was a resident of Bristol for 57 years, previously residing in Maine. She had attended Unity High School and was a production worker for Converse Rubber Company formerly in Bristol and the former Bristol Manufactoring Company for 33 years, retiring in 1985. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church, Bristol and a member of the Harbor Lights Group at the church. She also loved taking trips to Foxwoods Casino. She is survived by three daughters, Sally L. Alegria and her husband, Manuel of Marion, SC, Peggy A. McManus and her husband, Daniel of Pawtucket, Judy L. Rielly and her husband, James of Bristol, and a son, James F. Tweedie and his wife, Beverly of Smithfield, three brothers, Robert E. Shorey of Fairfield, ME, Glendon E. Shorey of Warren and Aaron L. Shorey of Barrington. Also survived by 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde N.,Arnold L. and George H. Shorey, four sisters, Cleo H. Graham, Velma E. MacDonald, Joyce E. Miller and Virgie E. Reis. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesdasy, March 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Tuesday, March 17, 2009 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics RI, 33 College Hill Rd., Bldg. 31, Warwick, RI 02886 or to Big Sisters of RI, 1540 Pontiac Ave., Cranston, RI 02920.
