Mr. Matthew Principe, Jr., age 79 of 6 Mason Avenue, Bristol, died Sunday, September 13 at the Miriam Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Doris V. (Favreau) Principe, his wife of 57 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Matthew and Frances (Cirillo) Principe. He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, Class of 1948. Following graduation Mr. Principe served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a program manager for the Raytheon Corp. in Portsmouth for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. He was a communicant of St. Marys Church, Bristol. An avid golfer he played in the Luther League at Swansea Country Club, the league at Middlebrook Country Club in Rehoboth, MA and also played for many years in the Raytheon League at Green Valley Country Club in Middletown. He loved spending time with his family, cooking and gardening, he was a wood craftsman and designed many homes for family and friends. He also was an artist in oils and acrylics and was a devoted Boston Red Sox and New England Patriot Fan. In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by five daughters, Marilyn A. Spicer and her husband, Preston of North Scituate, Doris E. York and her husband, Charles of Warren, Janet L. Calderiso and her husband, Matthew, Ann Marie LaFleur and her husband, Paul, all of Bristol and Cynthia A. Accardi and her husband, David of Warren, a sister, Marion Miranda of Bristol and six grandchildren, Monica Spicer, David Accardi, Jill Marshall, Matthew Accardi, Brad LaFleur and his fianc Courtney, and Chad York and his beloved shitzu dog, Daisy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony, John and Thomas Principe. Funeral Services will be held from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Thursday, Sept. 17 at 9AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Wednesday, 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
