Mary Theresa Marshall

Mary Theresa Marshall, 96 of Bristol, entered eternal life on Sunday, June 14, 2009. A resident of the Crestwood Nursing Home for the past year, she was in the company of her loving family as she left on her new journey. She was the wife of Manuel Marshall, her husband of 49 years. Born in Britannia, the Island of St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of Louis F. and Mary Theresa Raposa. She came to the United States as a young child and lived in Fall River, MA until she and her family moved to Bristol in 1929. She was employed all of her adult life as a textile factory worker, first at Collins and Aikman and later at Premier Thread until retiring in the early 1970s. She was an avid reader, seamstress, and extremely excellent and active cook who always enjoyed entertaining and feeding her family and guests at family outings and holidays. She and her late husband especially enjoyed hosting their annual fourth of July cookout for many years at their home. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church and would seldom be seen in her own home or at the nursing home without her rosary in hand. She is survived by her son, Manuel Marshall, Jr. and his wife Colleen Ann, her grandson, David Manuel Marshall and his wife Carrie Ann, two great-grandchildren, David Manuel Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth, all of Bristol, and her sister, Rose Souza of Rehoboth, MA. and her brother-in-law, Roses husband, Jesse. She also has many surviving nephews and nieces in Rhode Island, Massachusett, Florida and Pennsylvania. Besides her husband and parents, Mary was preceded to eternal life by her sisters, Mary Madeline Almeida, Emily Rudich, Clotilda Kitchen and her brothers, Louis, Manuel and Charles. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 9:00 AM with a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Friday, June 19, 2009 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crestwood Nursing Home Patient Activities Fund, 568 Child Street, Warren, RI 02885.
