Mrs. Mary M. “Mazie” (Sousa) Cardoza, age 77, of 1014 Hope St. and formerly of 324 State St., Bristol, died Thursday, April 5 at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Edward R. Cardoza. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Irene (Paiva) Sousa. She was a solderer at the Raytheon Corp in Portsmouth for several years, retiring in 1958. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church, Bristol and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality at the church. She loved playing Bingo. She is survived by a son, Edward R. Cardoza and his wife, Paula F., two grandsons, Joseph and Nathan Cardoza, all of Speedway, Indiana, three sisters, Lenora St. Pierre, Ceretos, CA, Dorothy Silva of Hollywood, FL and Irene Mello of Tamarac, FL. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Sousa. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 8:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut St., Bristol. Visiting hours, Monday, 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 1150 Pontiac Ave., Suite 1, Cranston, RI 02920.
