Margaret C. Sousa

Mrs. Margaret C. “Margie” (Cruz) Sousa, age 87, of Pleasant St., Bristol, died Friday, November 13, 2009 at Village House, Newport. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Sousa, Jr. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Barboza) Cruz. Mrs. Sousa was a Communicant of St. Marys Church, Bristol and a former member of the Kickemuit Grange of Warren, Bristol Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, Generation Drum and Bugle Corps and the Ocean State Drum and Bugle Corps, both formerly in Bristol. She is survived by two daughters, Frances A. Bettencourt of Bristol and Loretta Tassoni of Baltimore, MD, five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three sisters, Marie Amaral and Anna C. Pacheco, both of Bristol and Beatrice C. Sousa of Portsmouth. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph G. Sousa, III and a brother, Joseph Cruz, Jr. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Monday, November 16, from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809 or to Forest Farm Day Care Centre, 193 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842.
