Louis Anthony Sousa

November 2, 1944 — June 11, 2024

Louis A. "Louie" Sousa, 79, of Bristol passed away in Boston on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. A lifelong Bristolian, Louis was the son of the late Anthony and Viola (Cavallaro) Sousa. Louie served our nation as a member of the United States Army. He served as a military mechanic where his expertise and dedication were both evident. He went on to work at Raytheon for many years. He later became the proprietor of Nanas Attic Treasures, creating a welcoming space to share his love of antiques with the community. He reminisced often about his upbringing on a vast farm in Bristol which fostered his love of gardening and his lifelong bond with animals of all sorts. His love for animals was evident to all who knew him. He found joy and solace in the companionship of his furry and feathered friends alike (the late Rusty, Daisy, Bandit, Sydney, and Bootsie to name a few). His family upbringing also led to his thirst to continually learn more about the genealogy of his ancestors and tracing of relatives throughout the country and beyond. His passions extended beyond the animal world into volunteerism. He served the community as a volunteer for both fire (Hydes) and rescue (as an EMT) in Bristol. For many years, he proudly drove antique engine 10 and/or pulled the antique hand pumper in the Bristol Fourth of July Parade. His involvement with the antique fire apparatus also led him to leave a mark on the silver screen. He appeared in the movie Mr. North where both he and the antique shared a screen and a brew with Anthony Edwards of ER fame. Other hobbies included weekly tractor pull competitions throughout New England which brought him great joy. His multifaceted life was a testament to his diverse interests and unwavering dedication to his passions. Known for his stubbornness, Louie had a soft interior that endeared him to many. Everyone knew exactly where they stood with him. His determination was matched only by his kindness and generosity. Those who knew him well will fondly remember his closings to every conversation including "stay out of the hot sun." Louie will be deeply missed by many who had the privilege of knowing him. Louie is survived by his daughter Juliann Sousa of Bristol. Besides his daughter, he leaves a brother, Anthony Sousa, nephews, Kyle and Justin Sousa, niece Amy Sousa and great nephew William Samuels. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister Mary (Sousa) Rego. Louie was laid to rest with his parents at St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to Adopt-a-Family at Bradley Hospital Foundation, PO Box H, Providence, RI 02901. https://www.lifespan.org/BH-giving
