Lester E. Steiner, Jr

Mr. Lester E. Steiner, Jr., age 77, of 1 South Lane, Bristol, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Smoogie (Bernt) Steiner.Born in New York, New York a son of the late Lester E. and Margaret (Rieker) Steiner. Mr. Steiner was a manager for Handy & Harman in Providence before retiring. He also worked for Engle Heart Industries in Attleboro, MA. He graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Navy as a Lieutenant. He was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church, Barrington, a former president of the Bristol Highlands Association, a member of the Providence Jewelers Club, Friends of Linden Place, Bristol. He was inducted into the Bernards High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002and was an avid tennis player. In addition tohis loving wife, survivors include, a son, Gregory L. Steiner of Newport Coast, CA, a daughter, Gretchen Lytle of Gaithursburg, MD, Stepchildren, Gregory L. McCarthy of Cannon Lake, CA, Bruce E. McCarthy and Carrie Croft, both of Cape Elizabeth, ME, and John W. McCarthy of Warren, grandchildren, Paul, Margaret, Ramsey and Madeline Steiner, Cody and Brock Lytle, step-grandchildren, Samuel, Alex, Satchel, Kelly, Emily, Jonathan and Madison McCarthy, Zoe and Hans Croft, Holly Goddu. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, Friday, September 14, 2007at 11:00 AM in St. Johns Episcopal Church, 191 County Road, Barrington. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rogers Free Library, 12 Gooding Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809 ora charity of the donor's choice.
