Mrs. Lena (Ruggiero) Proto, age 85, of 11 Goulart Avenue, Bristol, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Edward S. Proto. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Maria Antonia (Romaniello) Ruggiero. Mrs. Proto was a machine operator for many years at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp at their plant in Bristol retiring a number of years ago. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol, where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, a Feast Worker for the 16th of July Celebration and a volunteer for many church functions. She was also a member of the Hope Circle # 70, Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by a son, Domenic J. Proto and his wife, Margaret “Peggy” of Collierville, TN, two granddaughters, Ashley G. Proto of Seattle, WA and Tiffany A. Proto of Mason, OH, four sisters, Anna Carre and Nancy Colardo, both of Barrington, Jennie DiPippo of Enfield, CT and Leonora Delmage of Bristol and many devoted nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Andrade. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Friday, 4:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
