Karen J. Serpa

Ms. Karen J. Serpa, age 52 of 85 Blanding Avenue, East Providence, died Friday, November 27, 2009 unexpectedly at her home. Born in Fall River, MA and raised in Bristol, she was the daughter of John P. and Lillian (Almeida) Serpa of Bristol. A resident of East Providence for 26 years, she previously resided in Warren and Bristol. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant in home healthcare for over 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church, Bristol, she loved helping people, an avid cat fancier and enjoyed spending time in her gardens. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, David M. Serpa of Silver Springs, MD, a brother, Steven Serpa of Florida, three sisters, Beverly Sweeney of Florida, Kathy Thwaite of Somerset, MA, and Patty Jo Serpa of Riverside, also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph M. “Joey” Serpa and a brother, John Paul Serpa. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Friday, December 4, 2009 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visitation will be Friday morning only at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 108, Providence, RI 02903 or to the RI SPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915.
