Joseph B. Souza, Jr.

Mr. Joseph B. Souza, Jr., age 82 of 26 Shaws Lane, Bristol, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Miriam Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Irene P. (Paiva) Souza. Born in Little Compton, he was a son of the late Joseph B. and Mary (Machado) Souza, Sr. He had been a Bristol resident for 55 years, previously residing in Tiverton. He worked for the Director Ship Yard in Middletown for 8 years, retiring in 1988. He previously worked for 21 years for Converse Rubber Company formerly in Bristol. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church, Bristol. He loved gardening, puttering around his home and was a avid TV and Old Movies buff. He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia A. McKenzie and her husband, Raymond Sr., and Holly J. Silva and her husband, David Jr., all of Bristol, three grandchildren, Raymond J. McKenzie, Jr., Krystal M. Silva and Jacob A. Silva, and a great grandson, John Alexander McKenzie, all of Bristol, two brothers, Dassey Souza of Tiverton, John “Sonney” Souza of Little Rock, AR and a sister, Mary “Mamie” Placido of Fall River, MA. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Ike and Robert Souza and three sisters, Valentina Cavalho, Mary Raposa and Lillian. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, January 26, 2009 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, January 25, 2009 from 2:00-5:00 PM.
