Joseph V. 'Muffy' Moreira, Jr.

Mr. Joseph V. “Muffy” Moreira, Jr., age 66, of 47 Cottage Street, Bristol, died Thursday, November 08, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a year long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Bette Anne (Holmes) Moreira, his wife of 46 years. A lifelong resident of Bristol, he was the son of the late Joseph V. and Anna (Medeiros) Moreira. Mr. Moreira was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1958. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a cable foreman for the New England Telephone Company for 32 years, retiring in 1994. He was a communicant of St. Marys Church, Bristol, a past Captain and life member of Engine 4 and a life member of the Dreadnaught Hook, Ladder and Hose Co., No. 1 of the Bristol Fire Department, a member of the Bristol County Lodge of Elks, the Tin Can Sailors Association, a past secretary-treasurer of the DESA and a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark S. Moreira and his wife Gina and James J. Moreira and his wife Terri, all of Bristol, a daughter, Joanne E. Jones and her husband Gerald of Norwood, MA, seven grandchildren; Amy Moreira, Olivia Jones, Jillian Moreira, Jerry Jones, Elizabeth Jones, James and Katherine Moreira. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Frances Moreira. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, November 12, 2007 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Sunday, 2:00 - 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Church “Restore Her Beauty Campaign”, 330 Wood Street or to the Firemens Memorial and Welfare Committee, P.O. Box 775, both Bristol, RI 02809.
