Joseph J. Sousa

Mr. Joseph J. Sousa, age 92, of 23 Prospect Street, Bristol, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at the Silver Creek Manor Nursing Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Anella “Anna” (Vollaro) Sousa. Born in Warren and a resident of Bristol for most of his life, was a son of the late Antone and Maria (Tavares) Sousa. Mr. Sousa was a wireworker for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp in both of their former Bristol and Portsmouth Plants for 28 years, retiring a number of years ago. He was also a local Quahoger for many years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and an honorary member of the Prudence Island Bow Hunters Association. He is survived by a son, Norman J. Souza and his wife, Angie of Bristol, a daughter, Carol J. Taylor and her husband, Bruce of Orleans, MA, two grandchildren; Brian A. and Sara A. Taylor and a great grandson, Evan Taylor, a brother, Arthur P. Sousa of Bristol. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, John and Antone Sousa, three sisters, Florence Oliver, Mary Mancieri and Anna Castigliego. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O.
