Joseph B. Desouza

Mr. Joseph B. DeSouza, 78, of 15 Alma Avenue, Bristol, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria D. (Medeiros) DeSouza, his wife of 42 years. Born in Sao Paulo, Brasil, he was a son of the late Manuel B. and Cecilia (Pacheco) DeSouza. He was a fork lift operator in the receiving dept. of Carol Cable Co. in Warren and Pawtucket for 21 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Portuguese Independence Club in Bristol. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Ann Marie Medeiros of Bristol, Elizabeth Amaral of Riverside, Christopher, Melissa and Jason DeSouza, all of Bristol, seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Medeiros, Paul Braz, Jr., Mercedes Medeiros, Jessica Braz, Ethan Medeiros, Lindsey and Timothy Amaral, two sisters, Rosa and Neuza DeSouza, both in Brasil. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers and a sister. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Fired Dept. and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
