Joseph A. Botelho

Mr. Joseph A. Botelho, age 82, of 24 Mason Avenue, Bristol, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Evelyn (Souza) Botelho, his wife of 61 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of Manuel and Maria (Medeiros) Botelho. Mr. Botelho served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Natoma Bay in both the Asiatic-Pacific and European Theatres. He was a Meat Inspector for the US Government, Department of Agriculture for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church, Bristol. He loved doing carpentry projects around his home and was an avid football fan. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elaine E. Botelho of Middletown, two brothers, George Botelho of Bristol and Jeremiah “Jerry” Botelho of East Greenwich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Miranda Rogers and Mary “Mitzie” Menezes and a brother, Manuel Botelho. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 4:00-7:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
