Mr. John Martin, age 81, of 54 Richmond Street, Bristol, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family, following an accidental fall at his home. He was the husband of Gertrude (Silvia) Martin, his wife of 62 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late August and Mary (Andrade) Martin. He was a truck driver for the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. in Bristol and Portsmouth for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church, Bristol. He was a member of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee, he loved going to yard sales, the 4th of July and spending time with his family. He is survived in addition to his wife, by three sons, John Martin, Jr. and his wife, Angela; Robert A. Martin and his wife, Kathleen and Brian A. Martin and his wife, Donna, all of Bristol, a brother, Herman Martin and his wife, Evangelina of Bristol; six grandchildren, Lisa J. Lefebvre and her husband, Denis; Keith A., Jonathan J., Brian A. Jr., Christopher R. and Sean G. Martin and three great grandchildren, Haley A. and Lindsay R. Lefebvre and Christopher Mark Martin. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by two sisters, Mary Landry and Hilda Rall. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Friday, January 15, 2010 from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
