Gertrude Martin

Mrs. Gertrude (Silvia) Martin, age 87 of Richmond Street, passed away on November 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at Grace Barker Nursing Home in Warren, RI. She was the beloved wife of the late John Martin, Sr.; they were married for 62 years. Born in Bristol, RI, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Barbosa) Silvia. Gertrude is survived by her loving children; John Martin, Jr., Robert A. Martin and his wife Kathleen and Brian A. Martin and his wife Donna. She is also survived by her six grandchildren; Lisa Lefebvre, Keith Martin, Jonathan Martin, Brian Martin, Christopher Martin and Sean Martin, and six great-grandchildren; Haley and Lindsay Lefebvre, Christopher M., Braydon, Avery and Luke Martin. She worked most of her adult life at Converse Manufacturing. She was also a member of the Holy Rosary Society at St. Elizabeth Church, Wood St. Bristol, RI. She will also be remembered along with her late husband John, for their patriotism for their country and the town of Bristol, attending most of the Fourth of July concerts and always the first people to save a seat for the rest of the family at the Fourth of July parade. She was an avid doll collector and she will lovingly be remembered for her wonderful Christmas anise cookies. She was predeceased by all of her siblings; Mary (Tavares) Lima, John, Manuel and Joseph Silvia. She is also predeceased by her cherished daughter-in-law, Angela Martin. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St. Bristol, on Wednesday, November 16, at 10 AM with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 AM at St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood St. Bristol. Burial to follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Bristol. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 8-10 AM at the funeral home.
