Gerald A. Larson, 65, of Bristol, passed away after a battle with cancer at his home on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, with his family at his side. He was the devoted husband of Cheryl (King) Larson for 40 wonderful years. Born in Rochester, NY, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Gerald and Truus (Trommel) Larson. Jerry earned his Doctorate in Education from Boston University in 1994. His career in education spanned decades, working as a head of school, an Educational Consultant, and school leadership mentor. His impact was felt by countless school leaders and educators across the country. He was deeply involved in numerous professional associations and was admired for his thoughtful, common-sense approach to education. Jerry's leadership was defined by his care, advocacy, mentorship, and sense of humor. He began his independent school career at Phillips Exeter Academy and held many roles at Tabor Academy. Jerry served as Head of School at Cheshire Academy from 1999 to 2005, then as a managing partner and head of school search consultant at Educational Directions in Portsmouth, RI. He spent two years in Doha, Qatar, as the director of education and student care for ASPIRE Academy, broadening his global educational perspective. His wisdom, gained from years of working in both domestic and international academic environments, was widely respected. Jerry valued hard work, careful planning, and a positive attitude. He was committed to lifelong learning, frequently offering book and podcast recommendations, and posing thought-provoking questions to encourage deeper thinking. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors and dogs. He could often be found walking early in the morning, enjoying the park with his four-legged companions, or sipping an extra hot coffee. His passion for helping others discover and grow their potential extended beyond his career, making him a cherished friend, mentor, and coach to many. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; his son, Nicholas K. Larson; his siblings, Patricia A. Curran (Richard) and Jacqueline A. Hutchins (Glen); as well as by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, close friends and professional colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Barbara DeMello. He will be laid to rest privately in the Cremation Garden at North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Jerrys legacy of leadership, friendship, and mentorship will live on in the countless lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Winchendon School in Winchendon, MA for the Dr. Jerry Larson Fund For Teaching Innovation, directed to Katherine Duncans attention.
