George Alves

April 29, 1917 — December 1, 2006

Mr. George Alves, age 89, of 41 Mt. Hope Ave., Bristol, died Friday, Dec. 1 at the RI Veterans Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Rose (Rich) Alves. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Manuel and Deolinda (DaPonte) Alves. Mr. Alves was a Heavy Machine Operator for the Romano Construction Co. in Providence for 38 years, retiring in 1977. He served as a Corporal in the US Army during WWII in Central Europe. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and a member of the Anthony C. Almeida Post # 237, V.F.W., Bristol. He is survived by two sisters, Theresa Mancieri and Helen Canario, both of Bristol and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother, William Alves. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 9 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope St., Bristol. Visiting hours, Monday, 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol, RI 02809.
