Elizabeth A. Thornton

Elizabeth A. (Josephs) Thornton, 86, of Bristol passed away peacefully on Friday, September 22, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was the devoted wife of Phillip G. Thornton for 35 years before his passing in January of 2013. Born in Waterbury, CT, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Alisio) Josephs. Elizabeth graduated from Colt Memorial High School, class of 1955. After high school she went on to work for Rhode Island Hospital Trust Bank for many years. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church in Bristol where she participated in the Knitting Group for many years. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters: Linda A. Gouveia and Gail E. Pelletier (Jarod); her grandchildren: Colton P. Gouveia, Hannah E. Gouveia (Mark), Cade P. Pelletier, and Tyler Pelletier; and extended family and friends. In addition to her husband Phillip and her parents, she was also pre-deceased by her sister Barbara L. Sullivan. Her funeral will begin on Monday, October 2, 2023 with Visiting Hours at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol from 8:30-9:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held that same day at St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol at 10:00 AM. Elizabeth will be laid to rest with her beloved Phillip at St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.
