Elizabeth M. Sullivan

Mrs. Elizabeth M. “Bette” Sullivan of Windward Lane, Bristol, RI and Ormond Beach, FL., passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010 at St. Elizabeths Manor, Bristol, after a long illness. She was the wife of Leo F. Sullivan, her husband of 57 years. Born in Providence to the late Eugene C. and Dorothy (Kelso) McCarthy. She grew up in South Dennis, MA on Cape Cod. Bette graduated from Yarmouth High School and later enrolled at RI State College, now URI. While at college she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. Upon graduation she became Secretary to the Director of Nursing at RI Hospital. After marriage in 1952 she worked for Norden Instrument Co. in Stratford, CT, while a resident of Milford, CT where her husband worked for General Electric. Bette and her husband joined her brother, Eugene to take over the reins of the Lobster Pot restaurant in Bristol, when her parents decided to retire. After some thirty years they sold the restaurant to the current owner. An avid golfer Bette was a long time member of the R.I. Womens Golf Association and was a member of Wanumetonomy Golf Club in Middletown, RI and the Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach, FL. She was one of the founders of the Bristol Junior Womens Club and was twice chosen President. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Thursday, January 7 at 9:00 AM with a Requiem Eucharist Service at 10:00 AM in St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in Juniper Hill Cemetery, Sherry Avenue, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, January 6 from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 or to St. Elizabeths Manor “Barn Fund”, 1 Dawn Hill Road, Bristol, RI 02809.
