Edward Mello

Mr. Edward Mello, age 75, of 94 Church St., Bristol, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Jacqueline (Hager) Mello, his wife of 53 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Manuel Mello and the late Virginia (Costa) Mello Manchester. Mr. Mello worked for the RI Bridge and Turnpike Authority for 20 years, retiring in 1998 as the Plaza Supervisor at the Pell Bridge in Newport and had previously been at the Mt. Hope Bridge in Bristol for many years. He previously worked at Sunshine Oil Co., Bristol as a driver and serviceman. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Mr. Mello was a communicant of St. Marys Church, Bristol, a life member of the Bristol County Lodge of Elks #1860, was an avid walker and loved to spend time at his home in his yard and vegetable garden. He is survived in addition to his wife, by three daughters, Denise Henne (Paul) of Fairfax, VA, Cynthia Francis (Joseph)and Brenda Marshall (Bruce) both of Bristol and five grandchildren, Bethany Francis, Joseph Francis, II, Brooke E. and Bruce E. Marshall and Adam Henne. He was preceded in death by a brother, Manuel Mello and a sister, Angelina Motta. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, February 2, 2007 at 9:30 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Church “Restore Her Beauty Campaign”, 330 Wood St., Bristol, RI 02809.
