Edmund L. Alves

Edmund L. Alves, 89, of Bristol, passed away on October 27, 2016. He was the son of the late Mariano and Helena (Garaffa) Alves and the beloved husband of Maretta (LaFazia) Berry. Edmund is survived by his loving daughters, Patricia Vincent and her husband David and Elaine Merryman and her husband Tony, as well as five grandchildren; David and Wendy Vincent and her husband Peter Shoesmith, Jodi and Anthony Merryman and Shannon Carmo, five great-grandchildren; Justin Carmo, Abigail and Harrison Shoesmith and Alex and Andrew Barowy, two brothers; Joseph L. Alves of Bristol and Mariano “Babe” Alves of Oklahoma and one brother-in-law Seraphin “Fee” DaPonte. Edmund was predeceased by his first wife Georgina Alves; they were married for 54 years. He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Alves and a sister, Edith Medeiros. Edmund was an avid fisherman and a member of the Bristol Rod & Gun Club. Funeral Services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, October 31, 2016 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood St. Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope St., Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
