Dr James R. Urban

Dr. James R. Urban Jr., M.D., beloved father, brother, and son, passed away unexpectedly in his home in East Greenwich. Jim was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on September 7, 1947. He was the oldest of the five children of Attorney James R. Urban Sr. and Ruth (Desmond) Urban, both of them were WWII Naval Veterans. Growing up in Avon, Connecticut, Jim graduated from Westminster in Simsbury and went on to earn his Bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame where he played football and lacrosse. He had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army National Guard, serving as Captain in the Heavy Artillery Unit. He also worked as a parole officer for the State of Connecticut. Jim had a deep sense of loyalty and responsibility for the welfare of others. He decided to pursue professionally that lifelong passion, and adventurously attended medical school abroad, studying in Milan, Perugia, and Rome, Italy. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Rome, La Sapienza. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital and in Neurology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Jim was a devoted father and husband. He settled with his family in Rhode Island and established his Medical Practice in East Greenwich, where he dedicated his life to his patients and family. Jim was a lifelong learner. An avid reader, he constantly challenged himself to better understand his field and the world around him. His passions included politics, chess, and golf. He always maintained a cheerful disposition and took great pleasure in making people laugh. Jim leaves behind his beloved son, James R. Urban III, and his loving family Natalie, Ruth, Maureen, Carolyn, and Michael. He will be sadly missed by all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation that will be held Saturday June 15th from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at Sansone's Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, RI.
