Douglas C. Klein

April 9, 1925 — January 10, 2008

Mr. Douglas C. Klein, age 82, of Hope St., Bristol, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Louise U. (Usher) Klein, with whom he would have celebrated his 62nd Wedding Anniversary on February 9. Born in Newport, he was a son of the late Emil and Adeline (Carr) Klein. He was a resident of Bristol for 74 years. Mr. Klein was a Quality Control Inspector for the former Dahl Co. in Bristol for 12 years, retiring in 1987. He previously was a foreman for the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. at both of their former Bristol and Portsmouth Plants. Mr. Klein served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Klein bred and showed Champion Labrador Retrievers for many years. He was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, Bristol. He was a Civil War History buff, an avid reader and most of all, devoted to his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Charlotte K. Josephs and her husband William of Bristol, Barbara K. Reilly and her husband Kevin of Warren, Elizabeth N. Tavares and her husband Richard, and a son, Douglas C. Klein, Jr. and his wife Sarah, all of Bristol, thirteen grandchildren; Gretchen A. Maiona, Robert B. West, Jr., William D. West, Amy Reilly, Ellie K. Tavares, Jill A. Fox, Jonathan U. West, Douglas C. Klein, III, Mary Beth Tavares, Katie L. Tavares, Hannah L. and Sarah Jane Klein. Seven great grandchildren; Kevin, Meghan, Kayla, Jackson, Noah, McKayla and Joseph. Also survived by a sister, Madeline Smay of San Diego, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Klein and a sister, Dorothy Barker. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Requiem Eucharist Service Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 10:00 AM in St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sansone Funeral Home, Bristol.
