Dorothy B. Barton

Mrs. Dorothy B. (Brown) Barton, age 85, of 692 Hope Street, Bristol, died Monday, November 26, 2007 at Newport Hospital, Newport. She was the wife of John D. Barton, her husband of 62 years. Born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in Plattsburgh, NY, she was a daughter of the late George Leroy and Genevieve (Sharron) Brown. A resident of Bristol for 39 years, she previously resided in Old Tappen, NJ. Mrs. Barton attended the State University of New York in Plattsburgh. She was the office manager for the former Burton Industries in Pawtucket for 9 years retiring in 1986. Mrs. Barton was an amazing Water Color Artist, an avid knitter, with much of her handiwork donated to the annual bazaar at the First Congregational Church in Bristol and she enjoy gardening. She was a volunteer and tour guide at Blithewold Mansion and Gardens for many years and a volunteer for 12 years at the VA Hospital in Providence. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Ginny Barton Apostolides of Tuxedo, NY and Joyce Barton of Bristol, a son, John D. Barton, Jr., of Providence, Five grandchildren, Yan, Kristy, Suzie and Alex Apostolides, and Chelsey Barton- Karnes, and also two great grandchildren, Faith Apostolides and Marley Barton-Karnes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Cronin. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of her life on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the First Congregational Church, High Street, Bristol. Burial in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery, Plattsburgh, NY will be held at a future date. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Blithewold Mansion and Gardens, 101 Ferry Road, Bristol, RI 02809 or to the 10th Mountain Division Foundation, Inc., 133 South Van Gordon Street, Suite 200, Lakewood, CO. 80228. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sansone Funeral Home, Bristol.
