Mrs. Doris “Chick” (Goulet) Pereira, Chick, as she was known to many, died peacefully Saturday, June 7 after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Manuel 'Gal' Pereira for 65 years. Born in Bristol on October 15, 1911 to the late Edward and Emma (Dion) Goulet, she was the youngest of four sisters.She lived most of her 96 years in Bristol. During the Great Depression, unable to find work in the town they loved, she and her husband moved to Naugatuck, Connecticut, where they eventually opened Gallaghers Hardware which they ran jointly until retiring to Bristol in 1953. Affectionally known as Auntie Chick to generations of Bristol children, her cooking and endless trips to playgrounds and amusement parks will be remembered by many. Although they had no children of their own, she and her husband helped raise three generations of children in her family. In her latter years while living at Benjamin Church Manor, she continued her care giving to those in need, even after celebrating her 90th birthday. She will be remembered as a fun-loving and compassionate Aunt and friend. She is survived by grand-nieces Marilyn Foehr of Warren and Nila Asciolla of Bristol, grand-nephew Mark Asciolla of Chattanooga, TN, and their children Leah Curley-Lambert, AJ Asciolla, Emily and Meg Asciolla as well as many devoted friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192Wood Street, Bristol,Tuesday,June 10, 2008at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Tuesday Morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
