Domenic M. 'Babe' Calderiso

Mr. Domenic M. “Babe” Calderiso, age 83 of 1 Creek Lane, Bristol, died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Alice R. (Marchand) Calderiso, his wife of 59 years. Born and raised in Bristol, he was a son of the late Michael and Libera (Troiano) Calderiso. He was a resident of Warren for most of his life, returning to Bristol a few years ago. He served in the US Navy as a Seaman First Class during WWII. He retired from the Patent Office of the former PF Industries, formerly in Bristol in 1988. His 46 year career in production work, started with the former US Rubber Co., Converse Rubber and then the former Bristol Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Anthony C. Almeida Post # 237, V.F.W., Bristol. An avid Bowler, he participated in many leagues, he loved dancing, playing cards and spending much time on the water, digging Quahogs and clams and fishing. In addition to his wife, he will be sadly missed by six children, Gail McGovern - David of Bristol, Michael Calderiso - Kathie of South Carolina, Alicia Martucci - John of Warwick, Paula J. Martel - Bill Bowler of Bristol, Julie T. Vargas - Stephen of Warren and Patricia Laferriere - Roy of Marion, MA, twelve grandchildren; David and Nicholas McGovern, Sandra McGovern-Dugan, Domenic and Mickey Calderiso, Stephen and Matthew Martel, Lauren and Nichole Vargas and Sarah, Mitchell and Olivia Laferriere, thirteen great grandchildren; Quenton, Alex, Thomas, Tess, Patrick, Cassidy, Gaetano, Nicola, Ethan, Amelia, Benjamin, Ashlee and Caitlin, two brothers, Matthew Calderiso of Bristol, Nicholas Calderiso of East Providence and a sister, Rose Conti of Bristol. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Julio and Joseph Calderiso and three sisters, Mona Corso, Patricia Dunbar and Mary Ziemba. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Tuesday, 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
