Charles E. Waddell, Jr.

Mr. Charles E. Waddell, Jr., age 61, of 58 Woodlawn Avenue, Bristol, died Sunday, Feb. 11, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Susan (Harper) Waddell, his wife of 38 years. Born in Newport and a resident of Bristol for most of his life, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Modesta M. (Pennachi) Waddell. An Industrial Engineer, he worked for American Tourister - Samsonite in Warren for 30 years, retiring in 2001. During his years there, he had two patent designs created by him, which are still in production. Following his retirement, Mr. Waddell was the owner and operator of Design Craft East for the past two years. He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1964, and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Roger Williams University. He served in the US Army as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and a member of the Somerset Bowling League for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his friends and family, computers, gardening and woodworking. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons; Charles E. Waddell, III (Candi) of Warren, Bryon W. Waddell (Debra) of Bristol and Gary D. Waddell (Francesca) of Pembroke, MA, three grandchildren, Cara J., Casandra R. and Aden Waddell, and a brother, Edward L. Waddell (Amy) of East Greenwich, RI. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Friday, February 16 at 9AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope St., Bristol. Visiting hours, Thursday, 5-8 PM.
