Charles H. Martin

Charles Hopkins Martin, 83 of Bristol passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. He was the devoted husband of Stephanie (Street) Martin for 49 years before her passing in 2020. Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late James and Mary Ellen (Concannon) Martin. He served in the US Navy and later worked for the Federal Government in Washington, DC. He was a graduate of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and received his Master's degree from Bridgewater State College. He taught science for many years at Gaudet middle school and Middletown High School. He was an accomplished fencer in his younger years and competed in the 1972 Olympic trials. He was also a proud member of the MENSA organization and enjoyed racing sports cars and golfing throughout different stages of his life. He is survived by his children; Charles Street Martin and his wife Kate of Providence, RI and Jennifer M. Belvin and her husband Dan of Glocester, RI and his grandchildren Emmy and Andy Belvin and Hope Andersen Street Martin and Charles Concannon Hunt Martin. He is also survived by his brother James Martin; and many extended friends and family including his caregiver Grace Cordeiro who lovingly cared for him these past three years. In addition to his beloved Stephanie, Charles was pre-deceased by his parents James and Mary Ellen and his sisters Eleanor, Dorothy and Frances Martin. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol from 5-7pm. His funeral will start from Sansone funeral home on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023 at 9AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol at 10AM. Charles will be laid to rest with his wife Stephanie at Juniper Hill Cemetery immediately following mass.
