Casperino John Matarese

August 29, 1923 — January 13, 2007

Casperino “John” Matarese, age 83, of the RI Veterans Home, Bristol and formerly of Warren, died peacefully Saturday, January 13 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Corina I. (Cirillo) Matarese. Born in Leominster, MA and a resident of Bristol and Warren for most of his life, he was a son of the late Antonio and Jennie (Barone) Matarese. He was a CV Operator at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp for 25 years and a baker for the former Sunset Bakery in Bristol for many years. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Santa Fe and was a member of the USS Santa Fe Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, cooking, and baking bread and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was the loving father of Tony F. Matarese (Sue), of Dover, TN, Patricia A. Bruneau (Richard) of Wethersfield, CT, Sister Colleen Matarese, S.S.D., of Bristol, and Corinne St. Pierre (David) of Warren, devoted grandfather of Christine Cordell (Matt), Anthony Matarese, Jr., Allison, Jennifer, Jeffrey, and Adam Bruneau, Mason and Benjamin Francis, and great grandfather of Morgan Reese. He is also survived by a sister, Angelina Principe of Bristol, two brothers, Henry Matarese of Riverside and Anthony Matarese of Warren. In addition, he leaves behind step-grandchildren, DJ and Nicole Lescault, Brandon St. Pierre, step-great-grandchild, Zoie Cordell, and many nieces, nephews and caring friends at the RI Veterans home. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister, Gaetano and Elizabeth Matarese and his twin sister, Thomasina M. Travers. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Chapel of the RI Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut St., Bristol. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Fatima High School, 360 Market St., Warren, RI 02885 or to the RI Veterans Home Chapel Fund, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809.
