Anthony J. Surgento

Mr. Anthony J. Surgento, age 81, of 9 Laurel Lane, Warren, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at St. Elizabeths Manor, 1 Dawn Hill Road, Bristol. He was the husband of Helen (Duarte) Surgento, his wife of 55 years. Born in Bristol and a resident of Warren for 55 years, he was the son of the late Matthew and Lorenza (Trotta) Surgento. Mr. Surgento was a plumber for Local # 77, Plumber and Piper Fitters Union, New Bedford, MA for 16 years, retiring in 1984. He previously worked at Converse Rubber Company, formerly in Bristol for a number of years. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He was a long time member of the Warren Fire Department Engine 4. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Christine Shorey, a son, Anthony J. Surgento, Jr. and a step-daughter, Helen Wallace, all of Warren and a step-son, Leo Thomas of Attleboro, MA, a brother, Joseph Surgento of New Bedford, two sisters, Madeline Vital of Warren and Irene Ruggieri of Barrington. Also survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by a brother, Matthew Surgento. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, April 30, 2007 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Lukes Church, Washington Road, Barrington. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, April 29, 2007 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886.
