Ann Sparrell Dorey, 89, passed away peacefully in Tiverton, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 16, 2023. She was the devoted wife of the late Donald L. Dorey. Born in South Kingstown, RI she was the daughter of the late H. Kirkwood and Marion (Fisher) Sparrell. Ann grew up and lived by the sea all her life. She grew up sailing in Wickford, Rhode Island and lived for many years in Marblehead with her late husband, Donald, where they raised their four daughters, The Dorey Girls. After Marblehead, Ann lived in Duxbury, Newburyport, Dartmouth and spent her final year of life in Tiverton, with a view of the Sakonnet River. In her 60s, Ann renewed her passion for playing the flute and performed with the Satuit Concert Band and South Shore Bay Band for several years. She also loved tending her perennial gardens, helping her daughters with the design of their own gardens. Ann was an active member of the Duxbury Garden Club, always looking for any community garden tour available to view other gardens. Ann was a talented seamstress and knitter. Sewing and upholstering, making curtains and always knitting a sweater for some lucky grandchild. Later in life Ann gathered with friends for a game of bridge or mahjong and loved her pool aerobics in Duxbury. Ann was responsible for putting together a very active group for swim aerobics and bridge at her last home at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay. Ann made many friends during her last 6 years while living between Dartmouth and Tiverton. She was always there with a Rob Roy in hand for the social gatherings and had recently found love with a fellow musician and lover of sailing, Joe Purtell.
