Mr. Andrew A. DelToro, age 80, ofBristol, died Friday, January 02, 2009 at his home. Born in Bristol and a longtime resident, he was a son of the late Biagio and Virginia (Pisani) DelToro. He was educated in the Bristol Schools and LaSalle Academy, he graduated from the Morton Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. A Registered Nurse, he was employed by the State of RI as Nursing Supervisor of the state prison system, retiring in 1973. He was a Sergeant and Medic in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He served in Kumsong and Kumhwa areas. He received two purple hearts, and a bronze star, among other service medals. He lived in St. Petersburg, FL for 25 years. Mr. DelToro was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol, he was an avid dog lover and proud owner of Jane, Nipsy and Toby. He is survived by two sisters, Madeline “Lil” Manchester and Helen Sloman, his friend and caregiver, Alan Bond, all of Bristol, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers; Biagio, Anthony, Ventura, Frank, Joseph, Albert and Joseph O. DelToro, and three sisters, Clara Garrity, Anna Melchers and Nicoletta Calitri. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Monday, 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter, C/O 11 Broad Common Road, Box 155, Bristol, RI 02809 or to the Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd., East Providence, RI 02914.
