Alphonse A. Proto

Mr. Alphonse A. Proto, age 84, of 4 Johnson Court, Bristol, died Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Evergreen House Health Center, East Providence. He was the husband of Victoria G. (Catalano) Proto, his wife of 60 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Antonio and Sylvia (Pagnano) Proto. Mr. Proto worked in the Maintenance Dept. of Kaiser Aluminum Corp. at both of their Bristol and Portsmouth Plants for 38 years, retiring in 1981. He had previously worked at the former US Rubber Company and the former Town and Country Transportation Co. In later years he worked at the Hope Dinner in Bristol. Mr. Proto served in the US Navy during WWII. He had attended Bristol Public Schools and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society at the church and a member of the Leonardo daVinci Lodge, Sons of Italy, Bristol.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Anthony V. Proto and Alphonse N. Proto, both of Bristol, two grandsons, Brian C. Proto of Dover, NH and Scott M. Proto of Bristol, three great grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan and Keira Proto, of Dover, NH, a brother, Rocco Proto of Augusta, GA and a sister, Fannie Giordano of Canoga Park, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Alphonse Proto and two sisters, Helen Vecchio and Ann Dundas. Funeral Services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Monday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut St., Bristol. Visitation Monday morning at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol, RI 02809.
