Allan E. Pontes

Mr. Allan E. Pontes, age 61, of 164 Carousel Drive, Riverside, and formerly of Bristol died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at his home. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Arthur Pontes, Sr. and the late Beatrice L. (Cunha) Pontes Leger. A resident of Riverside for 10 years, he was a former resident of Bristol and Providence. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, Providence, Class of 1966 and a received a degree in Business Management from Johnson and Wales University. Mr. Pontes served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict Era. He was an Assistant Manager for the former K-Mart in Seekonk, MA for a number of years retiring in 1976. He was a frequent blood donor for the RI Blood Center and avid Red Sox Fan and was a collector of coins and stamps. He is survived by a son, Allan E. Pontes, Jr. of Watervilet, NY, two brothers, Arthur Pontes, Jr., of Bristol and Anthony J. Pontes of Providence, two sisters, Gloria J. Goulet of Providence and Gladys J. Carlow of Harrisville. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service with Military Honors, Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Newport Memorial Park, 123 Howland Avenue, Middletown, RI 02842. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 PM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the RI Blood Center, 405 Promenade Street, Providence, RI 02908.
