Alfred R. 'Fred' Costa

Mr. Alfred R. “Fred” Costa, 82 of Wethersfield Commons in Warwick, and formally of Warren for 38 years, passed away peacefully Thursday January 14, 2010 at Kent County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Pereira) Costa, his wife of 53 years. Born in Bristol, November 3, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter and Sadie (Travers) Costa and brother of late Edward Costa. He is survived by his daughter, Susan P. Costa and a son, Michael P. Costa. He leaves his grandchildren Brandon and his wife Sandy Capaldo, Zachary and Taylor Capaldo, Ashley and Brittany Costa, and two great-grandsons Matthew Capaldo and Jake Herden. He graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1946 and was a Marine Corps Veteran serving from 1951-53. He attended Brown University before becoming a Leading Agent at John Hancock for 28 years winning many awards including “Man of the Year” in 1967, 21 Honor Clubs, 6 Presidents Club, Best All Around Agent 6 times, and was inducted into the Field Vice Presidents Council on attending 15th honor club and his name will remain on a plaque honoring him at the home office in Boston. He was a life member of the Correia-Wojtyto DAV Chapter 13, the Bristol County Lodge Elks #1860, the Stevens-Laroche-Pratte VFW Post 122, and the American Legion Post #0102. He was also the President and Vice President of Pop Warner, as well as a Football Statistician for 22 years for Warren and Mt. Hope High School. He was a former member of Crestwood Country Club for 16 years and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots Fan. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service in Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, on Saturday January 23 at 11:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visitation will precede the service Saturday from 9:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred Costas memory to the Jimmy Fund, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7295 or donate online at www.jimmyfund.org. would be greatly appreciated.
